Azir is a champion of extremes. Before his 6-star constellation, he is widely considered mediocre, slow, and fragile—a 'mid-tier' champion who struggles to survive long enough to utilize his Emperor's Deck. However, unlocking his 6th star transforms him instantly into one of the strongest champions in the game, capable of consistent Turn 1 or Turn 2 victories. While some players find his optimal 'champion spam' playstyle repetitive or 'boring', the power level is undeniable.
The Emperor's Army (Optimal C6)
  • Oath of the Guardians icon
The cornerstone of Azir's strongest strategy. Upon summoning Azir, this shuffles powerful Level 2 champions into your deck. While these created champions do not inherit Azir's items via his C6 power (as they are created after Game Start), they benefit massively from the cost reduction provided by Star Gems.
  • Star Gem icon
Reduces the cost of all allied champions by 2. When stacked, this allows you to play the champions generated by Oath (or the Ascended champions in your deck) for free or very little mana immediately.
  • Star Gem icon
A second copy maximizes cost reduction and stats, often enabling a board full of champions on Turn 1.

Strategy

This build ignores Azir's Sand Soldiers and focuses entirely on 'Champion Spam'. Mulligan for Azir. Play him Turn 1. Use the massive cost reduction from double Star Gems to flood the board with the champions created by Oath of the Guardians and the Ascended champions (Nasus/Renekton) inherent to his C6. This creates an overwhelming board state that usually ends the game instantly.
Shurima's Legacy (Signature C6)
  • Azir's Staff of Office icon
Azir's signature relic. At 6 stars, this relic's effects (cost reduction and stats) are shared with Renekton, Nasus, and your support champion in the deck. It also accelerates the Sun Disc countdown significantly.
  • Star Gem icon
Provides global cost reduction for your shared Ascended champions, ensuring you can dump your hand early.
  • Found Fortune icon
Draws a card and grants it an Epic item. Since you want to find and play champions quickly, this helps maintain tempo and hand size.

Strategy

A more thematic build that leverages Azir's unique C6 item-sharing mechanic. By equipping his signature relic, you grant its buffs to the other Ascended champions in your deck. This build focuses on assembling the Shuriman 'Exodia' of Azir, Renekton, and Nasus quickly.
Ascended Rally (Rare Only / FTK)
  • Crownguard Inheritance icon
Rallies when the user levels up. Since Azir and his Ascended allies level up very easily (often instantly upon playing if conditions are met or Sun Disc flips), this provides multiple attack tokens in a single turn.
  • Star Gem icon
Essential for reducing the cost of your other champions to ensure you can play them and trigger the Rally chain.
  • Star Gem icon
Further cost reduction and stats to secure the First Turn Kill.

Strategy

A high-octane build accessible without Epic relics. The goal is to play Azir and his allies, trigger level-ups to proc Crownguard Inheritance, and attack multiple times in one turn to end the game immediately.
Survival of the Sands (Pre-C6 / 3-Star)
  • Death's Foil icon
Prevents Azir from taking damage while attacking. Crucial for keeping him alive on board so he can generate value without dying to blockers.
  • Corrupted Star Fragment icon
Allows Azir to consume his own Sand Soldiers (which don't scale well) to transfer their stats and keywords to himself, making him a formidable threat.
  • The Beast Within icon
Grants Overwhelm to the whole board (since Sand Soldiers have a subtype), allowing you to push damage through chump blockers.

Strategy

Before reaching 6 stars, Azir cannot rely on champion spam. This build focuses on keeping Azir on the board, scaling his stats by eating disposable soldiers, and surviving long enough to flip the Sun Disc and utilize the Emperor's Deck.
Other Relic Options
  • Stalker's Blade icon
A solid removal tool. When Azir is summoned, he strikes an enemy. Useful for stabilizing the board.
  • Loaded Dice icon
Can be used to fish for better powers or items, though less consistent than combat relics.
  • Spectral Scissors icon
Good for ephemeral synergy and pushing extra damage, though often overshadowed by Star Gem strategies.
Avoid 'Game Start' relics like Starforged Gauntlets, Echoing Spirit, and Frozen Tomb on C6 Azir. Due to bugs with how his 6-star power initializes, these relics often fail to trigger their effects correctly.
Constellation
Azir's constellation is heavily back-loaded. His early stars (1-3) focus on the Sun Disc and Sand Soldiers, which can feel slow and low-impact in high-difficulty adventures. His 4-star and 5-star powers provide necessary board presence and mana, but his 6-star power is the definitive reason to play him, fundamentally changing his identity from a stalling summoner to a combo-heavy powerhouse.

Game Start: Summon a Buried Sun Disc. Advance it 1 round whenever you summon a unit.
  • Icon for Emperor's Assault

    Emperor's Assault

+1 Starting Mana. Each round, when you summon your second unit, grant allies +1|+1.
    Review
Grants +1 starting mana and a minor buff to Sand Soldiers. While functional, Sand Soldiers scale poorly into late-game content, making this feel underwhelming compared to other champions.

    Glory of the Sands II

Game Start: Summon a Buried Sun Disc. Advance it 1 round whenever you summon a unit or landmark. When you Restore the Sun Disc, refill your mana.
    Review
Restores the Sun Disc (eventually) and replaces your deck with the Emperor's Deck. This is powerful but slow; many games end before you can fully utilize the Emperor's cards.
  • Icon for Sandstone Scout

    Sandstone Scout

Game Start: Summon a Rock Hopper.
    Review
Summons a landmark (Desert's Wrath) at Game Start. This is controversial; while it advances the Sun Disc, it consumes precious board space which can hinder the 'champion spam' strategy at higher levels.
  • Icon for Emperor's Assault II

    Emperor's Assault II

+2 Starting Mana. Each round, when you summon your second unit, grant allies +2|+2.
    Review
A significant spike. Grants +1 Mana Gem (total 3) and a board-wide buff when summoning units. This bridges the gap to his C6 power and makes his mid-game much stronger.

    Shurima's Legacy

Game Start: Create a Renekton and a Nasus in your deck, then grant all of Azir's items to other champions in your deck and hand.
    Review
The game-changer. At Game Start, creates Nasus and Renekton in your deck and shares ALL of Azir's items (including relics) with every champion in your deck. This enables the 'Star Gem' stacking strategy, as every champion drawn provides cost reduction for the others, leading to explosive turn 1 plays.
Gameplay Tips
Ignore the Soldiers
Unlike his League of Legends counterpart, Azir in Path of Champions (especially at high levels) does not rely on Sand Soldiers for damage. They are simply fodder to advance the Sun Disc or chump block. Do not waste resources buffing them.
The C6 Bug Warning
Be aware that Azir's 6-star power currently has negative interactions with several 'Game Start' relics. Starforged Gauntlets, Echoing Spirit, and Frozen Tomb are known to fail or behave inconsistently. Stick to static buffs or summon effects like Oath of the Guardians and Star Gem.
Mulligan for Champions
With a C6 build, your win condition is playing champions. Aggressively mulligan away spells and followers to find Azir, Renekton, or Nasus. With Star Gems equipped, drawing multiple champions usually results in a free board state on Turn 1.
Manage Board Space
Between the Sun Disc, the C4 Landmark, Azir, and his Sand Soldiers, your board fills up instantly. Be careful not to obliterate your own key units or burn important cards (like the Emperor's Deck) due to a full hand or board. In C6 builds, the Sun Disc is often less important than the raw stats of your champions.
The Emperor's Deck Trap
While the Emperor's Deck is powerful, it costs mana to play its cards. In a hyper-optimized C6 build, you often win before the deck even matters. Don't over-focus on flipping the disc if you have lethal damage on board with your champions.
