Azir
View on WikiExcellent (8/10)
High Investment Required
Rare Relics OK
Azir requires substantial investment to reach his full potential. Before his 6-star upgrade, he relies on a slow, control-oriented playstyle that struggles in high-difficulty encounters. At 6 stars, he transforms into an overwhelming offensive powerhouse, though this drastic shift in gameplay can feel repetitive.

The Ascendant Swarm
Zoe Specialized
Play: Shuffle 5 level 2 champions into your deck and double their stats, then draw one of them.
Allied champions have +1|+1 and cost 2 less.
Allied champions have +1|+1 and cost 2 less.
Strategy
This is the definitive setup for a 6-star Azir, highly effective against the 10-star Zoe adventure. By sharing items across all champions in the deck, the double Star Gem configuration drastically reduces champion costs and inflates their stats.
Oath of the Guardians floods the deck with additional champions that immediately benefit from these massive discounts, enabling overwhelming first-turn victories. Finding Overwhelm during the run is crucial to close out games faster.
Imperial Rally
When I level up, Rally.
Allied champions have +1|+1 and cost 2 less.
Allied champions have +1|+1 and cost 2 less.
Strategy
A highly consistent alternative for 6-star Azir. Instead of relying on random champion generation from Oath of the Guardians, this utilizes Crownguard Inheritance to trigger multiple rallies as Azir and his support champions level up.
This ensures a deterministic victory through repeated combat phases on the first turn. It requires careful sequencing to ensure champions level up on the board rather than in the deck.
Emperor's Vanguard [Pre-C6]
Support: Kill my supported ally and grant me its keywords and stats.
+1|+0 While I'm attacking, I can't take damage or die.
Power: Allies have Overwhelm, and if they have a subtype, +1|+1.
Strategy
Designed for accounts operating before the 6-star upgrade. Azir struggles with early-game presence, making survival paramount.
Death's Foil guarantees safe attacks, while Corrupted Star Fragment allows Azir to consume his Sand Soldiers, consolidating stats into a single, resilient threat to stall until the Emperor's Deck is drawn.
Shuriman Sacrifice (C6 Alternative)
Provides the cost reduction to play Azir and his champion armada
Provides fodder for disciple of shadows.
Enables Azir to chain rallies.
Strategy
The 2x star gems focused Azir builds have a weakness in not drawing enough champions. This disciple-of-shadows focused build mitigates that problem by flipping the sun disk on round 1, thereby putting all Azir's champions in hand.
Other Relic Options
Provides early Sun Disc acceleration and cost reduction, but generally offers lower overall board impact compared to aura effects like Star Gem.
Delivers excellent early-game tempo by drawing champions and preventing the deck from milling itself too quickly.
Highly effective at 6 stars, turning the constant stream of discounted champions into immediate board control.
Constellation
Azir's power curve is heavily backloaded. At lower star levels, he operates as a slow, control-oriented champion heavily reliant on stalling until the Emperor's Deck is active. His 6-star upgrade completely overwrites this identity, transforming him into an aggressive, champion-centric powerhouse that often wins before the Emperor's Deck is even drawn.

Glory of the Sands
Game Start: Summon a Buried Sun Disc. Advance it 1 round whenever you summon a unit.
Emperor's Assault
+1 Starting Mana. Each round, when you summon your second unit, grant allies +1|+1.Review
The board-wide stat buff is easy to trigger since it activates on summon, providing crucial early-game trading power.
Glory of the Sands II
Game Start: Summon a Buried Sun Disc. Advance it 1 round whenever you summon a unit or landmark. When you Restore the Sun Disc, refill your mana.Review
The Emperor's Deck provides immense value, but its slow activation speed can be a liability against aggressive encounters.
Sandstone Scout
Game Start: Summon a Rock Hopper.Review
Players disagree about this upgrade. Some consider the free Sandstone unit valuable for advancing the Sun Disc and providing an early blocker. While others find the landmark detrimental because it consumes critical board space needed for champion duplication.
Emperor's Assault II
+2 Starting Mana. Each round, when you summon your second unit, grant allies +2|+2.Review
A massive power spike that provides essential starting mana and doubles the board buff from summoning, significantly improving early-game survival.
Shurima's Legacy
Game Start: Create a Renekton and a Nasus in your deck, then grant all of Azir's items to other champions in your deck and hand.Review
Completely redefines Azir's playstyle. By sharing items with Nasus, Renekton, and support champions, it enables devastating first-turn combinations. However, it renders many game-start relics ineffective due to trigger order conflicts.
Gameplay Tips
- Manage Deck Size
The Emperor's Deck provides immense card draw, creating a high risk of self-milling. Monitor hand size carefully and utilize cards like Counterfeit Copies to prevent decking out during longer encounters.
- Leverage Support Champions
At 6 stars, Azir's ability to share items makes support champions incredibly lethal. Draft low-cost champions to maximize the immediate impact of shared stat boosts and cost reductions.
- Navigate Game Start Bugs
Several relics with game-start triggers, including Starforged Gauntlets, Echoing Spirit, and Frozen Tomb, have inconsistent interactions with Azir's 6-star power. Avoid these in favor of aura effects to ensure reliable performance.
- Bypass the Sand Soldiers
While thematic, Sand Soldiers scale poorly into high-difficulty adventures. Treat them primarily as defensive blockers and tools to accelerate the Sun Disc countdown rather than a primary damage source.
