Epic Relics
Paid Relics
Gnar is widely considered one of the weakest and slowest champions in the game. His base deck struggles with stat inflation, making high-difficulty encounters a constant struggle. Players disagree about his overall viability; some find his control-oriented, Impact-scaling playstyle rewarding in specific niches, while others find his inability to trade units effectively to be a fatal flaw.
Plunder Control
Deals Nexus damage at Game Start, immediately enabling Plunder for cost reduction.
Capitalizes on the Game Start Nexus damage to reduce Gnar's cost and provides scaling stats.
Summons Demacian champions when Gnar levels up, providing essential board presence.
Strategy
This setup addresses Gnar's core weaknesses: high mana costs and poor board presence. Swain's Raven Army and Packed Powder guarantee a massive cost reduction on turn 1. Protectors of Demacia capitalizes on Gnar's constant end-of-round transformations, summoning Demacian champions to provide the robust board presence his base deck lacks.
Resilient Spellslinger
Increases the damage of all spells and skills, making Wallop and Pokey Stick lethal.
Revives Gnar if he is slain, keeping him on the board.
Provides a second revive, allowing multiple copies of Gnar to stack spell damage.
Strategy
This alternative approach maximizes the damage of Gnar's spells, turning Pokey Stick and Wallop into potent removal tools. Because pure spell-damage builds leave Gnar extremely fragile, the dual Guardian Angels ensure he remains on the board. When revived, multiple copies of Gnar can exist simultaneously, multiplying the Luden's Tempest effect for massive damage output.
Accessible Tempo
Generates Warning Shots on summon to easily trigger Plunder.
Reduces Gnar's cost by 2 when Plunder is activated.
Creates a fleeting copy of Gnar in hand every round.
Strategy
Designed for newer accounts, this build uses Dreadway Chase Gun to generate Warning Shots, immediately activating The Scourge's Stash for a turn 1 cost reduction. The Grand General's Counterplan ensures a steady stream of fleeting Gnar copies, providing constant access to his champion spell for essential stalling and control.
Other Relic Options
Grants Overwhelm and stats to all units with a subtype, crucial for pushing Impact damage through ghost blocks.
Boosts Impact damage significantly, accelerating Gnar's primary win condition.
Synergizes with his constant transformations and provides much-needed scaling and sustain.
A trap option. Gnar levels up at Round End, meaning the stun effect triggers after the combat phase, rendering it completely useless.
A trap option. The Rally effect triggers at Round End, providing no combat benefit.
Constellation
Gnar's base deck is severely overpriced and his units are too fragile to trade effectively. He relies heavily on passive stat boosts from other Freljord and Bandle City champions' support constellations to survive. A comprehensive constellation rework is widely anticipated to address his fundamental scaling issues.

Outrage
Round End: If you've damaged the enemy Nexus this round, grant your allies Impact.
Beast Within
+1 Starting Mana. Round Start: Create a 2 cost Wallop in hand. If you already have one, reduce its cost by 1.Review
The consistent generation of Wallop is the cornerstone of Gnar's survival. This fast-speed stun is mandatory for mitigating damage from large enemy threats.
Outrage II
Round End: If you've damaged the enemy Nexus this round, grant your allies Impact twice.Review
While this provides a necessary power bump, the stat scaling is still considered too slow for modern, high-difficulty adventures.
Gameplay Tips
- Avoid Direct Trades
Gnar's base units have exceptionally poor stat lines and cannot favorably trade into average or big enemy units. Rely on stuns and chump blocking rather than attempting to win board control through combat.
- Scale Impact for Lethal
Impact is Gnar's primary win condition. Prioritize drafting powers that generate cheap units to go wide, allowing Impact damage to scale indefinitely and bypass enemy blockers.
- Leverage Fast-Speed Stuns
Wallop is a critical defensive tool. Hold up spell mana to stun the most dangerous attackers during the opponent's attack step, or use it offensively to remove a blocker and push Overwhelm damage.
- Beware of Round End Level-Ups
Gnar transforms at the end of the round. Relics and powers that trigger upon leveling up will activate when the round is already over, providing zero strategic value.
