Hecarim
View on WikiA very aggressive champion, he can overwhelm the opponent with his wide attacks with disposable units. Some players enjoy his slower scaling play style.
There are some major areas of common complaints though:
-
He has few tools to block and defend and his scaling can feel slow in Nightmare content.
-
The right play almost every turn is to play his 2 cost 'Onslaught of Shadows' card, making him feel repetitive.
-
Especially at lower investment levels, he feels weak.

His c6 ability summons an attacking ephemeral Hecarim on play, which doesn't die immediately because it has foil.

Extra mana helps get Hecarim on the board, with his high cost. The shark as a free unit is great, and quick attack can be surprisingly helpful too.

Hecarim generates many big units, but lacks innate overwhelm. This relic is mandatory to prevent getting chum blocked.
Strategy
This build focuses on playing and attacking with Hecarim himself. With 4 starting mana, you reach the 6 needed to play him and win on turn 3. Deaths foil enables the free hecarim to attack, survive, and then two hecarims to attack on the main attack.

Grants an extra mana, crucially allowing Hecarim to be played on turn 3.

Gives his ephemeral friends overwhelm, allowing damage from them to convert to damage on the enemy nexus.

Gives Hecarim the hp stat to achieve the 8 threshold for sfg. Additionally it revives his ephemeral copy from his c6.
Strategy
While Hecarim's Glaive is generally superior to SFG for mana on Hecarim, it is also only useful on Hecarim and many may prefer not to invest in the relic. Starforged guantlet is another way to hit the crucial 4 starting mana, but requires also substituting out deaths foil with guardian angel.

Stuns the enemy on level up, allowing all his units to attack unblocked.

Grants an extra attack on level up, comboing with tempest blade to enable two attacks on an enemy with a stunned board.

Eats hecarims free summons to grow his stats.
Strategy
This focuses on using Hecarim's level up to win the game, with crownguard and tempest blade. Be careful not to attack with 7 ephemeral allies before Hecarim hits the board though: you want Hecarim's first attack to trigger his level up and the free rally from crownguard.

Keeps his ephemerals alive when they attack. However, board space can then become an issue.

Gives him extra units to attack with when he attacks. Can be a strong choice, and a substitute for deaths-foil

Lets his ephemeral units' deaths turn into nexus damage pings and the deathless keyword hecarim is great too, especially with c6. Deathless though, tends to be worse than the effect of death's foil because the revived copy is stunned.

Devastating Charge
When
Ephemeral allies attack, give attacking
Ephemeral allies +1|+0 this round.
Onslaught of Shadows
+1 Starting Mana.
Round Start: Create an Onslaught of Shadows in hand. If you already have one, reduce its cost by 1.Review
Onslaught of Shadows is a crucial card and is usually the best card you can play. Hallowed stacking with it is an important source of his scaling.

Devastating Charge II
When
Ephemeral allies attack, grant
Ephemeral allies everywhere +1|+0.
Duelist
When you summon an ally, give it
Challenger this round.Review
More useful that it may appear, especially with the quick attack from his glaive relic. Many enemy units are bigger than hecarim, so challenger lets him attack safely.

Manaflow
Game Start: Get a mana gem.Review
Grants an extra mana gem. With SFG/Glaive, this can let you play Hecarim on turn 3.

Rampage
Each round, the first time you play a unit, summon an
Ephemeral copy of it attacking.Review
Even though this power is shared with Lillia, it is thematically appropriate for Hecarim and is both fun and powerful. The free attacking ephemeral copy enables duplication tricks with deaths foil and guardian angel.
