Thresh occupies a polarized position in the meta: he is often considered underwhelming or 'boring' at lower investment levels, but transforms into an unstoppable engine with his 6-star constellation and signature relic. While his base kit can feel slow and reliant on 'keyword soup,' fully optimized builds enable infinite summon loops and overwhelming board states.
Soul Lantern Infinite
The cornerstone of Thresh's highest-ceiling strategy. On attack, it summons an attacking copy of a champion from your deck. If Thresh is your strongest unit, he can repeatedly summon copies of himself, flooding the board.
Essential for tempo. It allows you to play Thresh as early as Turn 1 by killing your own units, which immediately feeds his level-up condition and constellation triggers.
Shuffles powerful Level 2 champions into the deck. Thresh's 6-star power buffs these champions whenever allies die, creating massive, low-cost threats.
Strategy
This build maximizes the 'Champion Printer' playstyle. Use Disciple of Shadows to kill starter units and drop Thresh early. When Thresh attacks, Soul Lantern pulls another champion (ideally another Thresh or an Oath champion). With 6-star powers, your board becomes a relentless wave of buffed, deathless champions.
The Oathkeeper
- Shuffles five Level 2 champions into your deck and doubles their stats.
Discounts the champions created by Oath and grants them +1/+1.- A second copy further reduces costs and boosts stats, allowing you to flood the board with high-stat champions rapidly.
Strategy
A highly effective 'cheese' strategy that mitigates Thresh's reliance on his own stats. By stacking Star Gems, you ensure the powerful champions generated by Oath cost very little mana. This build is extremely consistent for clearing high-difficulty adventures like Viego or Lissandra.
Slay & Scale
- Provides the mana cheat needed to deploy Thresh early while triggering Slay effects.
Spawns Husks when Thresh kills units (via Disciple or combat). These Husks grant keywords and stats while providing more bodies to die for Thresh's passive.
Allows Thresh to consume his allies (including Husks) to gain their stats and keywords, accelerating his growth into a massive carry.
Strategy
This build focuses on generating value through death triggers. The Husks from Succubus's Brand feed Corrupted Star Fragment, turning Thresh into a massive unit with 'keyword soup' (multiple keywords like Overwhelm, Elusive, and Lifesteal).
Other Relic Options
Can be used with Soul Lantern to trigger the attack effect multiple times in a turn, though it requires managing the recall downside.
Provides Spellshield to protect against removal. Thresh can regenerate Spellshield when enemies die, but this guarantees safety against initial burst damage.
Allows Thresh to absorb keywords from any unit that dies, making him incredibly versatile and resilient.
Generates high-cost units from regions like Shadow Isles, providing fodder or powerful allies.
Constellation
Thresh's constellation upgrades are heavily criticized for being uninspired or 'boring,' as they often double down on simple stat scaling rather than introducing new mechanics. However, they are undeniably effective. The upgrades fix his slow early game and turn him into a premier user of 'Oath of the Guardians' by buffing champions globally.

Gameplay Tips
Mastering the Soul Lantern Loop
If you are using the Soul Lantern relic, Thresh will summon a champion from your deck on attack. To create an 'infinite' loop where Thresh summons another Thresh, ensure the Thresh on the board has higher Attack than the copies in your deck (relics like Star Gem or power buffs help this). If he is the strongest champion, he will pull himself.
Leveraging Disciple of Shadows
Thresh's cost is already reduced by units dying, but Disciple of Shadows accelerates this proactively. Don't be afraid to kill your own board (like the Warden's Prey from his 4-star power) to drop Thresh on Turn 1. This immediately starts his level-up counter.
The Oath Synergy
With his 6-star power, every ally death buffs champions everywhere. This makes Oath of the Guardians exceptionally strong because the Level 2 champions it creates will enter play with massive stats. Prioritize drafting support champions that stabilize the board or provide Lifesteal.
Countering Lissandra
Thresh can struggle against Lissandra's control tools. A specific counter-strategy involves finding the 'Ethereal Remitter' node and taking the power that summons Narwhals or 'Helia'. These powers flood the board or silence effects, disrupting Lissandra's game plan enough for Thresh to scale.
