Veigar is widely considered a powerhouse at 3 stars, transforming from a slow, vulnerable unit into a burst-damage engine capable of deleting the toughest bosses, including Aurelion Sol. While his 2-star performance is sluggish, the 3-star upgrade is a massive power spike.
Exponential Darkness
The cornerstone of Veigar's kit. Once you reach 6 mana, every Darkness cast is doubled, accelerating your damage scaling and board control capabilities significantly.
Considered Best-in-Slot. It places a Frozen Thrall version of Veigar that thaws into a second copy. Having two Veigars on board doubles the Darkness damage growth at Round Start and allows Chemtech Duplicator to fire massive barrages.
Increases the damage of all your spells and skills. When paired with multiple Veigars and Chemtech Duplicator, this damage bonus is applied multiple times, leading to lethal outputs.
Strategy
This build focuses on maximizing the 'Round Start' trigger. By using Frozen Tomb to cheat out a second Veigar, you increase your Darkness damage by +2 every round instead of +1. Survive the early game, and once you hit 6 mana, the combination of two Veigars and Chemtech Duplicator will obliterate the enemy board and Nexus.

Gameplay Tips
Survive to 6 mana
Veigar's strongest power spike occurs at 6 mana when Chemtech Duplicator activates. Your primary goal in the early game is to preserve health and control the board with units and spells until you reach this threshold. Once active, you can often win in a single turn.
The 3-Star Power Spike
At 3 stars, Darkness becomes 0-cost and Burst speed. This allows you to react instantly to enemy plays, removing threats before they can strike or buff. It essentially breaks the action economy of the game, allowing you to clear the board without passing initiative.
Avoid Gloom Anti-Synergy
Be extremely careful with powers or items that convert spell damage into "Gloom" (such as Vex's support package). This mechanic prevents Darkness from dealing "damage" in the traditional sense, which stops Veigar from progressing his level-up condition.
Target Priority
While it is tempting to strike the Nexus immediately, use Darkness to control the board first. Veigar's scaling is inevitable; as long as you don't die, you will eventually overpower the opponent. Only pivot to Nexus damage when the board is stabilized or you have lethal damage.
