Excellent (8/10)
High Investment Required
Rare Relics OK
Vex requires significant investment to reach her full potential. At lower star levels, her performance is underwhelming, but with her 4-star power and specific constellation nodes, she transforms into a highly effective and satisfying control champion.
Spell-Slinger Control
  • Loaded Dice icon
Crucial for rerolling shops to find powerful damage spells, which synergize heavily with her constellation upgrades.
  • Big Guns icon
Provides immediate spell damage amplification, allowing for early board clears and consistent Nexus damage.
  • Frozen Tomb icon
Ensures Vex is on the board without spending mana, acting as a mana deposit and enabling early control.

Strategy

This build maximizes Vex's spell-slinging potential. The strategy revolves around drafting high-quality spells from shops and using them to control the board while Vex safely scales her damage.
Gloom Chain Reaction
  • Fear-Cleaving Axe icon
Scales her stats and synergizes perfectly with her level-up effect, amplifying Gloom application.
  • Utmost Despair icon
Applies Gloom to the entire enemy board upon play, setting up immediate board control.
  • Chemtech Duplicator icon
Provides overwhelming value in the late game by doubling her spells and Gloom applications.

Strategy

Focused on maximizing Gloom application. By combining board-wide Gloom triggers with spell duplication, this build aims to completely lock down the enemy board and trigger massive chain reactions.
Rare Relic Control
  • Chemtech Duplicator icon
Ensures that once you reach 6 mana, your spells and Gloom applications become overwhelming.
  • Utmost Despair icon
Provides immediate board-wide Gloom upon playing Vex.
  • Luden's Tempest icon
Increases the damage of all her spells, providing consistent value throughout the game.

Strategy

A highly effective build using only rare relics. It focuses on surviving the early game to reach 6 mana, at which point duplicated spells and enhanced Gloom applications easily clear the board.
Other Relic Options
  • Echoing Spirit icon
Excellent for generating additional copies of Vex and her champion spell, though it can occasionally clog the hand.
  • Death's Foil icon
Allows Vex to attack safely and apply Gloom without risking her survival.
  • Black Shield icon
Provides essential protection against removal-heavy encounters, forcing the AI to waste resources.
  • Searing Brilliance icon
A strong option for spell-heavy playstyles, complementing her win condition of playing few units.
  • Riptide Battery icon
Synergizes incredibly well with Gloom, providing multiple triggers that accelerate her level-up and clear boards.
  • The Curator's Gatebreaker icon
Often paired with Riptide Battery for instant Gloom triggers and Nexus damage upon summoning.
Constellation
Vex is heavily reliant on her constellation upgrades to function effectively. At 3 stars, her performance is generally considered underpowered. However, unlocking her 'Star of Discovery' node, which adds damage to drafted spells, completely transforms her into a top-tier champion.

When an enemy dies outside of combat, deal 4 Damage to the enemy Nexus.
    Review
This upgrade is considered mandatory for higher difficulties. It provides a reliable win condition by dealing direct Nexus damage when enemies die, allowing Vex to focus entirely on board control without needing to attack.

Game Start: Get a mana gem.
    Review
Provides a significant comfort boost by accelerating her mana curve, making her early game much smoother, though it is not as strictly necessary as her fourth star.

When an enemy dies outside of combat, grant other enemies Gloom.
    Review
An incredibly powerful and satisfying upgrade. It allows Gloom to spread when enemies die outside of combat, creating massive chain reactions that can wipe the entire enemy board from a single spell.
Gameplay Tips
  • Prioritize Spell Drafting
Vex's optimal playstyle revolves around casting spells rather than playing units. Aggressively cut units from your deck at healer nodes and use your rerolls at shops to find cheap, multi-target damage spells.
  • Bypass Enemy Defenses
Gloom is a status effect, not damage. This means it completely ignores defensive keywords like Tough and Barrier, and it will not trigger enemy powers that activate upon taking damage.
  • Master Mana Management
Because Vex relies heavily on spells, it is often correct to pass your turn and bank spell mana. Bait the AI into overextending their board, then punish them with a devastating area-of-effect spell.
  • Optimize Support Champions
Look for support champions from spell-heavy regions like Piltover & Zaun. Avoid drafting 1-cost support champions, as doing so prevents valuable cost-reduction items from appearing in your reward pools.
