Excellent (8/10)

Outside of having some of the best voice lines in the game, Vex is a potent spell caster. With her Star of Discovery boosting all drafted spells' damage by 4, she can easily obliterate enemy boards with unreasonable amounts of Gloom while pinging the enemy nexus to death.

She is somewhat high-investent though, because she is fairly weak until she gets her Star of Discovery. In adventures, she can struggle until she makes it to the first shop node, and even then relies on luck and rerolls to get the spells she needs.

Spell-Slinger Control
  • Loaded Dice icon

Crucial for rerolling shops to find powerful damage spells.

  • Big Guns icon

    Provides immediate spell damage amplification.

  • Frozen Tomb icon

Ensures Vex is on the board without spending mana.

Strategy

Vex's entire game plan is to draft high quality spells from shops, using them to control the board and whittle down the enemy nexus.

Resilient Control (No Epics)
Zoe Specialized
  • Voidborne Carapace icon

Synergizes with Vex's playstyle, granting her additional keywords as units die.

  • Guardian Angel icon

Provides a critical safety net, allowing Vex to play aggressively and survive otherwise lethal encounters.

  • Wicked Harvest icon

Provides an immediate board clear, helping control the board and scaling her keywords.

Strategy

This build is specifically designed for the 10-star Zoe adventure, emphasizing board control and resilience without relying on Epic relics.

Voidborne Carapace allows Vex to scale her keywords as the board is cleared, while Guardian Angel ensures she can survive the massive stat scaling of Zoe's units. Focus on drafting removal spells and use Vex's Gloom to systematically weaken high-threat targets.

Other Relic Options
  • Searing Brilliance icon

A strong option for spell-heavy playstyles, complementing her win condition of playing few units.

  • Echoing Spirit icon

Excellent for generating additional copies of Vex and her champion spell, though it can occasionally clog the hand in longer encounters.

You might be tempted to play Vex as a champion focused deck, using her to apply Gloom to the board with relics like Deaths Foil and Fear Cleaving Axe. This is not recommended because her spell based playstyles are much more reliable and have a signficantly higher power ceiling.

Constellation

Vex's power curve is highly exponential. At 3 stars, she struggles with high-stat encounters. However, her 'Star of Discovery' node (which grants +4 damage to drafted spells) is arguably the most important upgrade in her tree, turning her into a premium removal engine.

    Review

Essential for closing out games and providing a reliable win condition. Dealing damage to the enemy Nexus when an enemy dies outside of combat perfectly complements her spell-heavy, board-clearing playstyle.

Crucial for accelerating her spell-slinging game plan. The extra mana allows her to establish control earlier and reach critical spell thresholds faster.

Enables massive chain reactions and board wipes. Spreading Gloom as an AoE when enemies die outside of combat makes her incredibly satisfying and powerful, completely locking down enemy boards.

Gameplay Tips
  • Prioritize Spell Drafting

Vex's optimal playstyle revolves around casting spells rather than playing units. Aggressively cut units from your deck at healer nodes and use your rerolls at shops to find cheap, multi-target damage spells.

  • Bypass Enemy Defenses

Gloom is a status effect, not damage. This means it completely ignores defensive keywords like Tough and Barrier, and it will not trigger enemy powers that activate upon taking damage.

  • Master Mana Management

Because Vex relies heavily on spells, it is often correct to pass your turn and bank spell mana. Bait the AI into overextending their board, then punish them with a devastating area-of-effect spell.

  • Avoid Anti-Synergies

Be cautious with powers and cards that do not interact well with Gloom. The 'Enfeebling Strike' power does not trigger from Gloom application. Additionally, the spell 'Double Up' will deal zero damage to the enemy Nexus if the initial target is killed by Gloom. Finally, Vex's star powers convert damage to Gloom, which prevents champions like Veigar from levelling up, so don't pick them as support champions.
